If not, go back to work until it does. It is difficult to overemphasize the value of solid preparation before starting Hands-On Training. A new instructor usually struggles with preparation the first few times. With just a little experience, however, most instructors learn what works best for them and preparation becomes far more efficient. It is interesting to note that the best, most highly experienced HOT instructors are among those most dedicated to preparation. One might think that these people would “have it down pat” and wouldn’t need to prepare.
Questions may be used to accomplish many objectives in a training session, such as • Review material • Check understanding • Start a discussion • Get opinions • Draw out personal experience 50 • Hands-On Training The best questions are those that require trainees to think. ” are usually the best. Those that can be answered with a simple yes or no are usually the weakest. ” In other words, the answer to one question is followed up with another question. In general, a series of connected questions is better than a “one question, one answer” parroting routine.
Think about the best location for the training and also think about where to position the trainee.
