A new instructor usually struggles with preparation the first few times. With just a little experience, however, most instructors learn what works best for them and preparation becomes far more efficient. It is interesting to note that the best, most highly experienced HOT instructors are among those most dedicated to preparation. One might think that these people would “have it down pat” and wouldn’t need to prepare.

Questions may be used to accomplish many objectives in a training session, such as • Review material • Check understanding • Start a discussion • Get opinions • Draw out personal experience 50 • Hands-On Training The best questions are those that require trainees to think. ” are usually the best.
